New Bathroom Install WHEW!!

So I recently and I mean recently helped my son put in a totally new bathroom in his house. From the floors to the toilet and tub, with new walls and fixtures.

I’m going to tell you what, if you have never done this before, it will be a chore for you. So my recommendation to you is to read as much as you can on whatever you can about installs and demos in a bathroom. Watch videos if you need to also.

This wasn’t a problem for me as i have done this type of work before, what was a problem was having to rerun the drain for the toilet as this house was like 70 years old and the original drain was still in there. What I wound up doing was running the drain and I had to build a little 3” platform to sit the toilet on. Let me tell you what, it came out GREAT! My son loved it and so did his family. It gave height and strength to the floor under the toilet from where I had to do a lot of cutting into the floor.

Next i had to rerun all new water lines, this wasn’t so bad because i used sharkbites or what you would call quick connects. These fittings are better than plumbers cement as it eliminates all the mess and it gives a water tight seal that will last for years and years. I highly recommend using sharkbites when running new water lines.

Then it was shopping day. We went and got new drywall, tub, shower walls, drywall mud and tape, silicone, and adhesive to attach the shower walls to the drywall, and new waterproof laminate flooring for the bathroom floor.

All in all it took us about 4 days to get this done. The first full day was all demo and gutting the bathroom to the studs and getting all of the old tub and what nots out of there. Then the next 3 days was running new water lines and drains. Then the floor had to be laid and then walls put in then the new appliances installed.

After all of this he has a nice new bathroom that any 28 year old can be proud of because he helped do this to his own house.
